Tummy Tuck Redos | Tummy Tuck Revisions In Orange County
The tummy tuck is one of the most popular cosmetic procedures in the United States. In Orange County alone, thousands of women and men opt for tummy tucks, and often are extremely satisfied with their results.
But tummy tucks are not always perfect. In fact, there are several issues that can lead to a problem with a person’s abdominoplasty, including:
- Botched Surgery – Believe it or not, but any physician can perform cosmetic surgery without having been trained fully in plastic surgery. And this is not illegal or controlled. Obviously we feel that this is not right. While Dr. Agha is a board certified plastic surgeon and graduate from one of the most prestigious plastic surgery training programs in the United States, some surgeons are not board certified in plastic surgery, have less training or take less time with patients and create a less aesthetically appealing look.
- Healing Problems – There is also a small risk of insufficient healing. The human body can heal in different ways. No matter how skilled your plastic surgeon is, it’s possible that your body decided to go against the “norm” and heal in such a way that ruined the plastic surgeon’s work, causing an unattractive abdomen despite the surgeon’s best efforts.
- Complications and Body Weight Changes – Many other issues can lead to problems with your tummy tuck, including complications after surgery, changes to your body weight immediately after surgery, and much more.
- Finally, plastic surgery is an art. Although your plastic surgeon may be a great surgeon, he or she may not be a great artists. The surgery may have been performed well, but the scars may be uneven, or high, or not enough skin may have removed. In fact, these are the main reasons that we see in our office for tummy tuck redo requests.
Abdominoplasty (tummy tucks) are an outstanding procedure, especially in the hands of a skilled plastic surgeon like Dr. Agha, but tummy tuck redos may be necessary. Many of the patients who present to us for tummy tuck redos, are dissatisfied with the results of a previous tummy tuck with another surgeon, for a merit of different reasons. In the past these have included:
- High tummy tuck scar that is visible
- Umbilical shape that is not aesthetically pleasing
- Jagged tummy tuck scar
- Uneven tummy tuck scar
- Lack of mons (pubic) correction
- Remaining abdominal skin and tissue laxity
- Lack of abdominal definition and contour
What’s Involved in Abdominoplasty Revision
As mentioned above, every patient’s issue and concern is different. Dr. Agha will look at your tummy tuck results to determine what the next steps are, by focusing on what was done, and what needs to be altered in order to achieve a more aesthetically pleasing look. Dr. Agha will look at issues that include:
- Naval Position – One of the most common issues with tummy tucks is a belly button that is not in the correct place, or is too big, or too round after tummy tuck surgery. This can be corrected via umbilicoplasty.
- Unfortunate Scarring – Scarring is a common issue with all tummy tucks, but in some cases the scarring can be in a location that is far too visible or inappropriate. Dr. Agha will look for ways to address the scarring (if possible) so that you’re more confident with your abdomen.
- Poor Contouring – Issues with unsightly contouring is also very common, especially in the upper abdomen and flanks. Dr. Agha will discuss your options with you, and develop a plan that will help revise the tummy tuck in order provide a healthier and more natural look.
Sometimes the issue is not necessarily directly related to the tummy tuck either. Many patients find that they asked only for a tummy tuck, but really needed additional liposuction, reshaping of the mons pubis, and other procedures that enhance the look of the abdomen, even though they are not directly related to abdominoplasty. If that is the case, Dr. Agha will provide you with more information at your consultation so that you can make an informed decision.
